Have you ever felt like your spirit was running on empty?
Life has a way of wearing us down—through our daily responsibilities, the challenges we face, and even through the good and holy work of serving others.
Jesus understood this well. In Mark 6:31, after the disciples had been out serving and teaching, He said to them: “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”
Rest is not laziness. It’s not quitting. Rest is an act of faith. A way of trusting that God’s work continues, even when we pause.
From October 1 through November 2, I will be stepping away from the demands of day to day ministry for a time of spiritual renewal. This is a special time set apart for prayer, reflection, and rest. It’s a chance for me to listen for God’s voice, to worship with Tina in different settings, and to seek fresh vision for where God is leading us as a church.
During this time, Rev. John Hall will be here each week to lead worship, preside at the Lord’s Table, and offer pastoral care. I am deeply grateful for his willingness to shepherd our congregations during this season.
Spiritual renewal isn’t just for pastors. We all need moments when we slow down and allow God to “create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us” (Psalm 51:10). While I’m away, I invite you to consider how God might be calling you to rest and be renewed. Whether through prayer, scripture reading, serving others, or simply taking time to be still in His presence.
My hope is that this time will not only renew my spirit but also bless our church. When I return, we can continue the work God has given us with joy, energy, and love.
Let’s remember Wesley’s simple but powerful words: “The best of all is, God is with us.”
Even in times of rest and renewal, God is here, guiding, sustaining, and renewing us every step of the way.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Owen
